Diversey Care Fulfils WWF Climate Savers Commitment with Significant Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Amsterdam, the Netherlands – 5 June 2014 – Sealed Air’s Diversey Care Division today announced it has fulfilled its years-long commitment with the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Climate Savers programme. At the end of 2013, Diversey Care operations recorded a reduction in absolute CO2 emissions of more than 48 per cent from 2003 levels.
Initiated in 1999, the Climate Savers programme encourages member organisations to drastically reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and influence market or policy developments affecting sustainability. In 2008, Diversey Care originally committed to reduce absolute GHG emissions to 8 per cent below 2003 levels by 2013, but increased its commitment to 25 per cent in 2009.
“From senior leadership to front-line employees, everyone is committed to this programme, which helps both the environment and the bottom line,”†said Dr Ilham Kadri, President of Diversey Care. “We’re proud of the progress we’ve achieved and are excited about setting new goals to work towards in the future.”
Diversey Care’s emissions reduction strategy focused on four key areas: 1) company fleet transportation, 2) manufacturing sites and operations, 3) offices and laboratories, 4) business air travel. Tactics included converting the North American fleet to higher-efficiency vehicles, installing a fuel cell and wind turbines at the company’s North American headquarters in Wisconsin to generate on-site power, and a commitment to using LEED principles in the design and operation of all leased and built facilities.
Dr Kadri added, “In addition to our commitment to practice sustainability in what we do, we also deliver a climate positive impact for our customers, helping them to become more sustainable in their operations. We have helped customers to reduce their emissions through the use of our products and services. In addition we have shared tools, best practices and solutions to enable them to calculate their carbon impact and reduce emissions.”
“Over the last six years, Diversey has effectively set a new standard of climate protection excellence for the cleaning and sanitation industry. The Climate Savers work proved the theory to leaders in government and business that companies uncover more savings when they begin to harvest opportunities, always exceeding expectations and cutting more GHG than they anticipate. WWF is proud of the business case Diversey championed, a case that dispels the myth that climate protection and prosperity are decoupled,” said Matthew Banks, Manager –†Energy & Climate, World Wildlife Fund.
Sealed Air is currently finalising new company-wide energy and GHG reduction targets within the WWF CS programme, which will focus on innovative strategies, collaborative efforts with customers and suppliers, and product and service offerings that support sustainability.
